Transition Quality Mark
What is the Transition Excellence Framework (TEF) and the Transition Quality Mark?
The TEF provides a framework to evaluate and consider your current practice around every aspect of transition. It aims to preserve flexibility for schools in how they deliver excellent transitions for students whilst also holding a high standard. Schools can review their practice against the TEF for self evaluation purposes and, should they wish, receive validation and certification via transitionexpert.org.
Why do It?
Placing a high value on transition helps to ensure that child and student anxiety around changes and transitions remains as low as possible. This ensures that the children settle into the new routine or experience as soon as possible which in turn supports their continued learning. Schools can undertake the certification as a way to demonstrate the quality of their offer to parents, staff, pupils and external inspection organisations.
Who can apply?
Any school, trust, MAT or other educational institution that feels that it offers excellent transition can apply for the certification.
How do we request validation?
- Complete the audit below and gather evidence or provide links to support the statements
- Go to the transitionexpert.org, register if you have not already
- Go to the TEF Assessment page
- Upload your document and add other details
How much will it cost?
The cost is £TBC for a remote assessment which involves reviewing the evidence and form provided, reviewing your school website and holding a video meeting with you. This pays for the external assessor and a portion to help run the organisation.
How long does the award last?
The award lasts for 4 years, after which it will be necessary to reapply.
How to complete the form:
There are 8 core aspects of excellent transition. Under the school comments column make brief notes on how you meet the criteria. Some schools like to use a highlighter to RAG rate the criteria. Provide relevant evidence when you upload your documents. It is helpful if you can number your evidence and put the numbered references on the form. If the evidence is on your website please provide a link.
